Iga Świątek's coach discovered a shocking truth. "She might not be able to play."

Iga Świątek has been working with the Belgian coach since the second half of 2024. The first serious tests for the Pole and Belgian were the challenges of the 2025 season, when several months of joint training and work could be envisaged.
Wim Fissette on Iga Świątek's injury. The behind-the-scenes of the US Open are shocking! The Polish player is currently second in the WTA rankings. After a hole-in-one on clay courts (especially in Madrid and Rome), Świątek redeemed herself with a resounding success at Wimbledon. A triumph in London, plus semifinals at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and the aforementioned quarterfinal at the US Open , the Polish tennis player is truly enjoying a remarkable season.
Fissette revealed the concerns that arose during the competition in New York. Needless to say, Świątek almost didn't compete at the US Open. Ultimately, however, the Polish player once again managed to grit her teeth and demonstrate a high level of athleticism. The player's will to fight and the work of Świątek's entire team ensured that the Polish tennis player could leave NYC with her head held high.
"We had some problems before the tournament started, related to a blister on my foot. We had to be very careful. Now, looking back, I feel we probably handled that difficult situation as best we could […] There was a moment when I thought, 'Maybe she won't be able to play.' And that's also a difficult situation for a player. Iga isn't one of those players who has a lot of injuries; she's usually in great shape and feels good. It's a situation where you never know how a player will cope mentally. Playing with a numb foot means you approach matches with much more thought than a normal match, which was a big challenge. I'm proud of Iga for how she handled it, and I think we can be happy with this quarterfinal," Fissette admitted in an interview with Dominik Senkowski from Sport.pl.
A series of tournaments in Asia will take place before Christmas. The tournament will begin in Seoul.
Iga Świątek and all her championship titlesIn her career so far, the Polish player has won a total of 24 championship titles on courts almost all over the world.
Świątek has won six Grand Slam titles, four at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024), one at the US Open (2022), and one at Wimbledon (2025). She also won the prestigious WTA Finals (2023).
In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments, respectively in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023), Madrid (2024) and the most recent one in Cincinnati (2025).
The list also includes WTA 500 events: Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022), and the aforementioned Doha (2023). Plus, a Polish twist, the WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).
After the 2024 Paris Olympics, a bronze medal should be added to this list. This is the first medal in Polish Olympic history to be won on the tennis court. Although, as the tennis player herself mentioned, after winning Wimbledon, if she could, she would trade one of her Grand Slam victories for Olympic gold.
